Best Time to Visit Disney World

Written by Allison McIntyreReviewed by Krista WhitneyUpdated Oct 1, 20266 min read

Quick Answer

For low crowds, low prices, and comfortable weather, the best time to visit Walt Disney World is mid-September through early October or mid-January through mid-February. These shoulder seasons bring resort rates 20–40% below peak, shorter ride waits, and far easier dining reservations. The trade-offs: a few rides may be down for refurbishment, and September carries a small hurricane risk.

Month-by-month Disney World crowd and price guide

I get asked about timing more than almost anything else, so here's the honest month-by-month rundown: **January (after MLK weekend):** Low crowds, cool weather in the 50s–70s, and prices at their yearly floor. Just note that Marathon Weekend in early January brings a short spike. **February:** Low to moderate crowds. Valentine's week gets busy but stays manageable, and temps sit in the 55–75 range. **March–April:** Spring break territory. Expect high crowds from about March 10 to April 20 and prices to match. On the bright side, the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival is running. **May:** Moderate early on, building toward Memorial Day. Temperatures climb into the 80s–90s, and it's good value before summer hits. **June–August:** Peak summer — high crowds, high prices, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and serious humidity (90°F and up). Mainly for families tied to the school calendar. **September:** My favorite overall for low crowds and low prices. Halloween decorations go up mid-month. Warm (85–90°F) with some rain risk. **October:** Low to moderate early, rising as Halloween approaches. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a genuine highlight. **November:** Moderate early, but Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest of the year. The Food & Wine Festival is in full swing at EPCOT. **December:** The first two weeks are moderate and beautifully decorated. Then December 20 through January 2 becomes the most crowded, most expensive window of the entire year.

Best weeks for each priority

Everyone's "best time" is a little different, so pick the priority that matters most to you: • **Lowest prices:** January 10–31, September 1–30 • **Shortest wait times:** January 10–31, September 1–20, February 1–14 • **Best weather:** March 1–20, November 1–20, October 15–31 (70s–80s, low rain) • **Best festivals:** October (Food & Wine plus Halloween), March–May (Flower & Garden), November–December (Festival of the Holidays) • **Best for toddlers:** September and January for the low crowds, plus mid-October If you want my personal pick for the best all-around compromise, it's the second or third week of October — manageable crowds, warm weather, Halloween decorations up, and Food & Wine still going.
